The gap nobody warns you about

Most foreigners in Mexico end up with two separate advisors who never speak to each other: an immigration facilitator who gets them a residency card, and, much later, an accountant who discovers they have been a Mexican tax resident for two years without filing anything.

Those two worlds are connected. A residency card does not make you a tax resident — that is decided by article 9 of the Federal Tax Code, essentially by where your home and your centre of vital interests are. But your immigration status, how long you stay and where you bank all feed into that question. We handle both sides on the same file, in English.

Working remotely for clients outside Mexico is not Mexican-source income. That distinction is what makes the whole residency route possible.

Amparo lawsuits, flat fee of $9,900 MXN

An amparo is Mexico's constitutional lawsuit. You go before a federal judge and ask them to review whether an authority violated your rights — and, just as importantly, to suspend the act while the case runs.

Foreigners use it more often than they expect: a bank account frozen by the tax authority, an unfounded fine, a permit refused without grounds, an agency that never answers a filing. We charge $9,900 MXN, VAT included, roughly 500 USD, the same price in any of the 32 states, and we file within 72 hours of receiving your documents.

The general deadline is 15 business days from the moment the act is served on you. It runs whether or not you understood the notice, so do not sit on it.

Tax defense subscriptions

The SAT notifies everything through the Buzón Tributario, an official electronic mailbox. Legal deadlines start running the moment a notice is deposited there, whether or not you ever open it. That single fact is behind most of the tax disasters we clean up. These plans exist so somebody is watching it every day.

About our fees. Amparo and paperwork flat fees are published with VAT included and honoured as displayed. They exclude third-party costs — the tax interest guarantee (bond or deposit), official filing fees, expert witnesses, certified translations, apostilles and notary fees — which we estimate before you engage us. Free tax-defence assistance is also available through PRODECON, the taxpayer ombudsman: if that suits your case better, we will say so.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in English?+

Yes. Our team handles cases in English and Spanish, and all documents we prepare for you are explained in English even though the filings themselves must be in Spanish. Most of our foreign clients are Americans and Canadians living in Mexico.

I live in Mexico on a tourist permit. Is that a problem?+

It can be. A visitor permit gives you up to 180 days, and the officer at the airport decides the exact number. Repeated re-entries raise flags and immigration can refuse you. If you actually live here, temporary residency is the correct route, and in most cases it has to start at a Mexican consulate abroad, not from inside Mexico.

Does living in Mexico make me a Mexican tax resident?+

Not automatically. Immigration residency and tax residency are two different things. Tax residency is decided under article 9 of the Federal Tax Code, mainly by where your home and your centre of vital interests are. Many expats become Mexican tax residents without realising it, and only find out when the SAT contacts them.

Do I still have to file in the United States?+

Yes. The U.S. taxes its citizens on worldwide income regardless of where they live, so moving to Mexico does not end your IRS obligations. What the Mexico–U.S. tax treaty does is prevent the same income from being taxed twice. We coordinate the Mexican side; you keep your U.S. preparer for the American side.

What is an amparo and why would I need one?+

It is a constitutional lawsuit before a federal judge, used when a Mexican authority violates your rights: a frozen bank account, an unfounded fine, a refused permit, or an agency that simply never answers. We file it at a flat fee of $9,900 MXN, roughly 500 USD, anywhere in the country.

Can I hire just one service?+

Yes. Residency, dual citizenship, accounting, paperwork and tax defense are all sold separately. Nothing is bundled and there is no minimum term on the subscription plans.
